How to Apply for Data Access

The Centre is open to all persons who have appropriate clearance from Statistics Canada. Access to data is allowed upon approval of an application that has been peer reviewed through a process managed jointly by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council and Statistics Canada.

Before applying for access to Statistics Canada data through the Research Data Centre, it is advisable to check on the data accessible through its  Data Liberation Initiative (DLI) Program  for Canadian post secondary institutions.  At Western University, DLI data are available through the Equinox data delivery system.  A checklist developed by the Toronto Regional Statistics Canada RDC helps decide which service to use: RDC or DLI.

The Research Data Centres Program of Statistics Canada provides the application process and guidelines to access data for academic and government-funded research.
